Super Audio CD (SACD) refers to disc mastered using the Scarlet Book specification which was introduced in 1999 as a successor to standard Red Book Audio CDs. SACDs have more in common with DVD-ROMs than CD-ROMs. Like DVDs, SACDs can be single or dual layer. Often the first layer is a standard Audio CD layer containing the same content as the SACD layer to provide backwards compatibility with a standard CD player. This layer can be dumped following the Audio CD guide. SACDs are currently impossible to dump to Redump.info standard due to their level of encryption and inability to be read with PC optical drives. Some models of Sony PlayStation 3 are able to read and dump SACDs in a decrypted format for personal use thanks to an included SACD decryption chip on-board.
Dumping
No SACD compatible PC drives were released, so current dumping methods rely on other hardware. Methods using a PS3 or a Blu-ray player with SACD support exists, but these do not capture the full disc contents and so Redump does not currently accept SACD dumps made using these methods. DIC supports reading SACDs using a first generation PS3 drive connected to a PC, but these result in encrypted dumps only.
