Definition
The Microsoft Xbox is the first console by Microsoft in the Xbox line released in 2001. Software was distributed mostly on DVD-ROMs (Padded DVD-9s known as Xbox Game Discs or XGDs) which does not conform to the DVD specs, however a few CD-ROMs were also made, mostly for applications.
XGDs are multi-session DVDs where the first session is a DVD-Video partition. XGDs also use Security Sectors in an attempt to prevent piracy. Some Xbox development discs are single layer DVD-Rs without Security Sectors, which can only be played on development units.
General Notes
- Xbox/Xbox 360 Hybrid Discs goes under this dat.
- Some Xbox demos also got distributed as extras on DVD-Movies. These are unprotected beyond the standard CSS encryption and should be entered as System: DVD-Video and Category: Demos.
- Xbox retail discs are all DVD-9 with PVD creation date 2001-09-13 10:42:55. The PVD does not get added to retail games as they all share the same video partition.
Dumping
- See the Xbox (original) & Xbox 360 dumping guide for what's required. Xbox DVD-Video demos can be dumped like a normal disc.
