Definition

Enhanced CD (AKA CD-Extra and CD-Plus) is a broad term used by the music industry for any disc with both audio tracks and data tracks. The data tracks are often but not exclusively for IBM PC compatible computers. For Redump.info purposes the term is used exclusively for multi-session CDs (Blue Book) and mixed-mode (Yellow Book) CDs where the disc's primary content is the audio tracks.

General Notes

  • If the data tracks are the primary content of the disc. Then add disc to the DAT where said Data tracks belong to instead.
  • Category of Enhanced CDs depends on what part is eligible. If it's the Audio tracks disc gets category Audio and if it's the data tracks it depends on the content of said data tracks (Video, Demos, Games, etc). If both are eligible disc gets category Multimedia.
  • Music CDs that are primarily non-game-related but have an exclusive game in the data tracks needs said game to be of a certain complexity to be eligible. What defines this can be fleeting, but it has to generally be more than a simple quiz.
  • CD-I Ready discs while also often called Enhanced CDs are not considered such by Redump and should go under the CD-I DAT instead. Note to that there is at least one known disc mastered like a CD-I Ready one but with PC content. And any such examples are considered pure Audio CDs and should go under that DAT.

Please note! (03-26-23): Currently, Universal Hash is not implemented well for multisession / enhanced CDs. If Universal Hash exists in a submission or entry, please remove it until this feature is fully implemented.

Enhanced CDs may have languages added

Multisession Enhanced CDs have a gap of 11400 sectors between sessions

How to calculate multisession range (MPF should do this automatically now):

  • Open disc.txt in logs and go to TOC
  • Session 1 range is LBA 0 to (last sector in session 1 minus 11400)
  • Session 2 range is (first sector in session 2 to last sector of disc)

Example:

Audio Track 1, LBA 0 - 14887, Length 14888
Audio Track 2, LBA 14888 - 15484, Length 597
Audio Track 3, LBA 15485 - 226234, Length 210750
Audio Track 4, LBA 226235 - 226831, Length 597
Audio Track 5, LBA 226832 - 227278, Length 447
---
Session 1: 0-3487 -> (14887-11400)
Session 2: 14888-227278
