Definition

DVD-Video is the standardized name by the DVD Forum for audio/video content released on DVD disc media. Many DVD-Video discs will be encrypted and protected with Content Scramble System (CSS). Redump.info hashes DVD-Video with encryption intact.

General Eligibility Criteria

Most DVD-Video discs that are eligible for redump include game-related video (promotional, game coverage, etc), and in most cases, the Category should be "Video". However, there are some other cases:

• DVD Movies with game demos are allowed. -> (Demos for PC, Xbox, etc—NOT Flash games) --- Category for these should be "Demos"

• DVD Games allowed, must be the primary content of the disc and be interactive. --- Category for these should be "Games"

• Both sides of Dual Sided DVDs are always eligible as long as one side is, with a note in comments of the normally non-eligible one. This also applies to both sides of a DualDisc.

• Nuon-enhanced DVDs are eligible and should be placed under DVD-Video with a note in comments clarifying that they are Nuon-enhanced

• Interactive driving theory test / highway code etc. instructional DVDs are not eligible.

• Movies and TV shows based on video games, drawing inspiration from them, or with video game "themes" are not eligible for redump. This includes but is not limited to movies like Pixels, Mario and Zelda cartoons, etc.

• Movies that are primarily non-game-related but have a minor game trailer or (non-playable) preview video as a portion of the contents, are not eligible.

Titling

• Where an interactive DVD is based on a TV show, the name of the host is not generally considered to be part of the title (so e.g. just "The Weakest Link" rather than "The Weakest Link with Anne Robinson"). An exception to this is usually made when the host name is used in the possessive e.g. "Barry Norman's Christmas Movie Quiz")

Copy Protection

As mentioned in definition, most DVD-Video discs are encrypted using a system known as CSS and many are also region coded to only work with players from one or several of the 8 DVD regions. When adding to Redump. Info regarding both CSS and Region Coding goes into the protection field.

In addition. Some Redump relevant DVDs carry additional protection in the form of Macrovision Ripguard. For details on how to dump these discs, see this page.

Languages

As a general rule, the consideration for whether a language should be added to the field relies on whether the user can access the main content of the disc in that language (i.e. watch a film the whole way through, play all levels of an interactive DVD-Video).

In most cases, this will mean that all audio and subtitle languages available should be added to the field, however there may be some nuanced cases where a different approach is required - for example where certain subtitles/languages are only available for certain features or titles e.g. https://redump.info/disc/80741/

Coverdiscs - For DVD-Video coverdiscs / certain compilation style discs with multiple videos, the language for redump is based on the menu and interface system. Optionally, languages for the individual videos can be added to contents or comments as appropriate.

For Movies on DVD with Game Demos - primary content rule applies so language fields should be that of the movie itself.

Note regarding DVD-Video hybrid discs

There are a number of cases where a disc is mastered as a DVD-Video but contains content for another eligible system. In this case, you should consider the "primary purpose" or intended platform for the disc. Is it

(a) Primarily intended to be played in any DVD-Video compatible device (including standalone DVD players), and as a bonus has some content which is compatible with another platform (e.g. PC/Mac)?

(b) Primarily intended to deliver content for a specific console or computer platform (e.g. contains mostly PC demos), and as a bonus has some content which is compatible with a standalone DVD player?

Case (a), classify as DVD-Video; Case (b) classify as e.g. IBM PC

Editions / Filename Suffix

Where a DVD-Video is bundled as a bonus disc with a game, the edition and Filename Suffix should always be set to "X Game Bundle".

Please note that where a DVD-Video is bundled as a bonus disc with a book or magazine, the edition may be set as "Book Bundle" / "Magazine Bundle", but the Filename Suffix should be left blank.

Pre-Order Bonus discs, First-Print Bonus discs, and other similar types of discs/editions that are not always bundled, do not use the Filename Suffix field. Additionally, if multiple editions of a disc exist, but not ALL of them are bundles, do not use the Filename Suffix field. For example, if a disc has an Original release and a PC Game Bundle release, there is no Filename Suffix unless one is required due to a collision.

Discs bundled with multiple releases

If the disc is bundled with a release of the game for more than one system and both copies are dumped (see e.g. https://redump.info/disc/81769/), then the Edition field should represent each individual system (PS3 Game Bundle, PS4 Game Bundle), while the Filename Suffix field should use the single term "Multisystem Game Bundle".

If a disc is known to be bundled with a release of the game for more than one system, but it is not clear which bundle version has been dumped (i.e. because the dumper only possesses a loose copy of the disc), then information about which releases are known should be added to comments along with a note stating "Exact bundle dumped unconfirmed". Neither Edition nor Filename Suffix fields should be filled in this case.
