Publisher Names in Titles

As of 2026-08-30 staff agreed to stop including certain publisher names in the titles of games as they are not actually part of the game title (e.g. DreamWorks Shrek -> Shrek). Do not submit fix requests for these, they will be fixed over time. The game title may be added with the publisher as an alternative title. This page is used to track which publisher names are removed from titles, and to document specific exceptions to not remove.

General guidance: "Remove company name prefix when the publisher name is standalone and does not meaningfully add to the game title". For example, "Disney/Pixar Finding Nemo" becomes "Finding Nemo", but "Disney Infinity" is kept as-is. "Meaningfully" implies the name should not be removed if it affects the meaning of the title (e.g. leave "EA Sports Computer Game Sampler" as-is). Other exceptional cases may keep the publisher/company name if it is universally known to include it as part of the title or removing it significantly affects disambiguation (e.g. "EA Sports MMA" is not well known as just "MMA" and would be too ambiguous). Finally, dual publisher names may also be removed (e.g. "Disney/Pixar" and "DreamWorks & Aardman").

Disney

Disney titles require extra care as many are meaningfully part of the title (e.g. "Disney's Tarzan"). Disney also often uses the branding "Action Game" which in some cases may be considered a genre tag (like many Japanese games), and not part of the title. The title prefixes "Disney Presents:", "Walt Disney", "Walt Disney Pictures", and "Walt Disney Pictures Presents:" may also be removed.

Disney/Pixar is often included in the title for movie tie-in games and can be removed from most titles, such as "Disney-Pixar Toy Story Racer" and "Disney-Pixar Ratatouille". The title prefix "Disney presents a Pixar film:" may also be removed.

The following are examples where "Disney/Pixar" is kept as exceptions:

DreamWorks

DreamWorks is often included in the title for movie tie-in games and can be removed from most game titles, such as "DreamWorks Shrek" and "DreamWorks Madagascar".

EA Sports

EA Sports should generally be removed from game titles (e.g. "EA Sports FIFA Soccer 2002" -> "FIFA Soccer 2002").

Nickelodeon is often included in the title for TV show tie-in games and can be removed from most titles, such as "Nickelodeon Barnyard" and "Nickelodeon SpongeBob SquarePants".
