ProtectDISC

General Information

CSS/CPPM based copy protection for PC Games made by Optimal Media Production GmbH (Formerly called VOB Computersysteme GmbH) and later Protect Software GMBH). It's the successor to VOB_ProtectCD / DVD but given its own page due to how differently it works.

DRM was mostly used by German publishers from the mid 2000s to early 2010s. Later version of the DRM might also have a companion DRM in the form of VMProtect. Early versions meanwhile (v6) overlapped that of VOB_ProtectCD / DVD and might lack a key in favor of still using DPM. This also applies to CDs using ProtectDISC so see the other page if that's the case.

Identification

Like with both ProtectCD and ProtectCD/DVD, ProtectDISC have no loose files associated with it and relevant ones are instead housed within the game exe. BoS and PID are the easiest way to identify if a disc carries ProtectDISC.

Dumping

For Redump: Just dump it like a normal disc. Like with DVD-Video the CSS/CPPM keys are automatically decrypted by Redumper and should be included in protection info.

For a working dump: Redumper does not recombine the keys with the image so for a working dump, one has to use DT Pro with a special CSS plugin. See the MDF/MDS_Dumping_Guide for info

Additional Information

Some discs will still carry a CSS/CPPM key despite the DRM itself having been removed from the game. If that's the case, keep it in protection field but make a note in comments.
