VOB ProtectCD / DVD

General Information

DRM system from Germany and used mostly by publisher from the country from the late 90s to mid 2010s. The company behind it went by quite a few different names (including VOB Computersysteme GmbH, Optimal Media GmbH and Protect Software GmbH) and it came in 3 different versions that succeeded the other; ProtectCD, ProtectCD/DVD and ProtectDISC.

This article will focus on the first two while ProtectDISC has its own page.

Identification

No DRM relevant files are found loose on disc so using BoS or PID is the easiest option. ProtectCD in addition can be identified by its specific track structure (see below) where track 4 carry 2200 MSF errors.

Dumping

ProtectCD: Just dump it like a normal disc.

ProtectCD/DVD: Dump it like a normal disc. Protection is DPM based so for a working dump follow the MDF/MDS_Dumping_Guide.
